About The Position

The Nutrition Coordinator at Porter-Leath will oversee food and nutrition services for Early Head Start, Head Start, Pre-K, and Preschool sites. This role is responsible for implementing a high-quality nutrition program that meets the needs of children and families, ensuring compliance with health and nutrition standards, and coordinating nutrition education and activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Family and Consumer Studies with an emphasis in Child Development/Food Service/Nutrition or related field.
  • Minimum two years of experience in oversight of a large scale food production operation.
  • Knowledge of sanitation/health standards, menu planning, bulk food purchasing, and large quantity food preparation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) regulations.
  • Familiarity with nutrition education and curriculum development.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Site Managers with interviewing and training new nutrition employees.
  • Provide feedback to Site Managers regarding Nutrition staff performance appraisals.
  • Monitor and evaluate food services at all Early Head Start, Head Start, Pre-K and Preschool sites for compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Ensure nutritional needs are met through menu planning and compliance with USDA/CACFP requirements.
  • Oversee high volume production, preparation, delivery, and service of meals.
  • Implement a regular schedule of monitoring food service areas for compliance and quality services.
  • Coordinate and facilitate nutrition education and training for staff and parents.
  • Implement nutrition curriculum and plan nutrition activities for children and families.
  • Assess nutritional status and special dietary needs of children and families.
  • Coordinate menu planning with staff, parents, and food vendors.
  • Monitor Child Plus/ProCare Data Software Management for documentation and follow-up services.
  • Participate in the Self-Assessment process of Nutrition services.
  • Develop and implement an annual nutrition plan, handbook, and procedures.
  • Monitor meals prepared and served to ensure compliance with dietary allowances.
  • Conduct required follow-up and reviews for the Child and Adult Care Food Program.
  • Maintain inventory of food supplies and equipment, and manage vendor contracts.
  • Analyze food budget monthly and initiate cost controls as needed.
  • Complete Monthly Claim for Reimbursement for Child and Adult Care Food Program.
  • Respond to unexpected staff shortages and equipment malfunctions while meeting contract requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with the Licensed Dietitian to review and approve menus.
  • Ensure compliance with health department and Porter-Leath requirements regarding food preparation and cleanliness.
  • Facilitate required food service inspections and licenses.
  • Support Site Managers in addressing complaints and resolving conflicts in the Nutrition department.
