A day in the life of a Nutrition Assistant at Hackensack Meridian Health includes handling all patient/customer interactions in a courteous and professional manner, using standardized script where required. The role involves receiving patient meal requests by phone call to the diet office, call backs from the diet office or visitation at the patient bedside, and processing meal orders via computer in an allotted time frame. The Nutrition Assistant also communicates with patients regarding menu selections in accordance with diet, food allergies, and food preferences, while keeping accurate dietary records for patients in the computer as necessary. Other responsibilities include monitoring pantry cleanliness, ensuring menu choices are therapeutically accurate, processing orders for guest trays, and identifying the needs of the patient population served.
