About The Position

Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for women, infants, and children. WIC provides nutrition education, breastfeeding education and support, supplemental highly nutritious foods, and referral to prenatal, pediatric, and other maternal and child health care and human service programs. ALL ANSWERS TO THE SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONS MUST BE SUPPORTED BY THE WORK EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION PROVIDED ON YOUR CIVIL SERVICE APPLICATION. Unless required by legislation, the selected candidate will begin at Pay Grade 14, Step 1 of the Exempt Pay Range Schedule ($39.22 per hour), with an opportunity for pay increase after six months ($41.46) of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.

Requirements

  • Completion of graduate core program in field of public health, health administration, preventive medicine, social work, nursing or other health-related field, or public policy & management/public administration or business administration AND 12 months experience in planning & administering health program(s), with education & experience to be commensurate with approved position description on file.
  • OR 4 years experience in planning & administering health program(s), with experience to be commensurate with approved position description on file.
  • OR 12 months experience as Health Planning Administrator 1, 65245, with experience to be commensurate with approved position description on file.
  • OR Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the WIC grant administrator for the state of Ohio
  • Manage and direct the Nutrition and Administrative Services (NAS) consultants who provide consultation, evaluation, monitoring, and technical assistance to local WIC agencies regarding provision of WIC services
  • Develop WIC program goals and objectives
  • Direct assigned staff
  • Oversee consultative services provided to local WIC projects in all areas of program operations in order to ensure correct interpretation of federal & state regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Monitor operational performance and trends of local WIC projects to ensure compliance with regulations
  • Assist with determining funding for 75 local WIC agencies
  • Supervise the WIC Breastfeeding and Special Projects supervisor
  • Communicate strategic priorities to staff, state agencies, local health departments, health/managed care organizations, and stakeholders
  • Serve as the Title V Maternal & Child Health Services Block Grant (Title V MCH BG) perinatal infant domain team lead
  • Assume a leadership role in planning, implementing, and evaluating new program initiatives
  • Act as the primary liaison for nutrition related issues between the Ohio WIC Program, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) & the National WIC Association (NWA)
