Position Summary The Nutrient Technician plays a key role in supporting the farm’s crop health and irrigation systems. Under the direction of the Head Grower, this position is responsible for preparing and maintaining bulk nutrient solutions, monitoring concentrate levels, calibrating sensors and instruments, maintaining horticulture equipment, and ensuring nutrient systems are clean, balanced, and performing optimally. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about plant science and horticulture, enjoy hands-on technical work, and thrive in a clean, high-tech agricultural environment. You will receive comprehensive training on AeroFarms’ proprietary growing systems, GMPs, food safety practices, and control software (HMI), with opportunities to cross-train in crop production and plant science.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Basic understanding of math, chemistry, or mechanical systems.
  • Basic computer proficiency and comfort using digital tools and HMIs.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Proficient in spoken and written English.
  • Ability to stand/walk for long periods and lift up to 55 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Background or interest in plant science, biology, horticulture, or agriculture.
  • Experience with nutrient dosing, irrigation, or pH/EC monitoring.
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing, food production, or greenhouse environment.
  • Understanding of GMP or HACCP standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and mix bulk nutrient solutions according to grower specifications.
  • Monitor daily nutrient tank levels and ensure sufficient volumes for production.
  • Weigh and mix fertilizers accurately and safely.
  • Clean filters, replace lines, and maintain irrigation and dosing systems.
  • Handle and neutralize acids safely following company protocols.
  • Correct EC (electrical conductivity) and pH levels when out of range.
  • Calibrate sensors, meters, and dosing equipment regularly.
  • Collect nutrient solution and plant tissue samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Maintain and track nutrient and horticultural supply inventory.
  • Clean designated areas around the grow room.
  • Record and track all equipment readings related to EC, pH, and nutrient concentration.
  • Use grow room software and HMI systems to verify plant condition and system calibration.
  • Identify, document, and escalate issues affecting nutrient performance or plant growth.
  • Scout for irregularities and assist in troubleshooting irrigation or tower system issues.
  • Comply with all Safety and Quality standards — safety is everyone’s responsibility.
  • Work proactively to maintain a positive, team-oriented work environment.
  • Ensure all nutrient preparation and handling follows GMPs and food safety requirements.
  • Maintain organized, clean workspaces and ensure all procedures are properly documented.
