The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a Nursing Unit Clerk (NUC) to perform clerical, reception, and related duties relative to nursing care and services to patients. This position will be located in the Medical Surgical Oncology Unit (4JPP), which is part of UI Health Care's Medical Surgical Services (MSS) division. Responsibilities include communicating and interacting with patients, visitors, and other health care professionals, utilizing and maintaining electronic communication systems, providing information and direction, assisting with call lights, navigating web-based resources, performing computer functions, maintaining accurate census information, processing patient charges, notifying appropriate professionals of patient admissions, completing and maintaining hospital and nursing records, using appropriate medical terminology, assisting with scheduling patient tests and appointments, practicing standard precautions, assisting staff during emergencies, maintaining supply processes, participating in unit staff meetings and in-services, and performing other assigned tasks. The role requires working in an environment with conflicting demands and/or priorities, managing multiple assignments, providing quick reaction to emergencies, maintaining attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work well with all levels and types of people.
