Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the efficient operation of the patient care unit.
  • Acts as the communication hub of the unit.
  • Serves as the unit receptionist, interacting with medical and ancillary staff, patients and the public in a courteous manner.
  • Establishes and maintains good communications with families/visitors and hospital staff.
  • Reports vital information to all levels of the healthcare team as needed.
  • Conveys needed information to patients and visitors.
  • Maintains good communication with co-workers for proper team functioning.
  • Communicates pertinent patient observations to members of the health care team.
  • Provides essential administrative and service support to providers/health care team members.
  • Establishes and maintains an organized, functional work environment.
  • Answers telephone in a timely, courteous manner, and relays messages to appropriate personnel.
  • Transcribes provider orders timely and accurately during downtime procedures.
  • Maintains the patient's medical record according to unit and organizational standards.
  • Updates patient clinical information systems in a timely manner.
  • Schedules procedures, follow-up appointments, and communicates plans to the health care team.
  • Performs and/or supports unit-based audits as directed by supervisor.
  • Supports interdepartmental patient flow process.
  • Assists in supporting Environment of Care (EOC) standards.
  • Performs patient services initiatives as designated by health care team members.
  • Supports work-flow processes for providers and health care team members.
  • Monitors and records temperatures for specimen refrigerators daily.
  • Responds appropriately to out of range refrigerator temperatures.
  • Collaborates with Nurse Manager to support adherence to unit budget.
  • Orders needed unit supplies and maintains adequate inventory.
  • Demonstrates effective time management skills.
  • Communicates patients' needs to appropriate personnel.
  • Answers patients' requests for assistance in a timely fashion.
  • Reports patients' needs and relevant patient care data to the RN.
  • Attends required computer training programs.
  • Telemetry monitoring, if applicable.
  • Performs similar or related duties as requested or directed.
