About The Position

Nursing Supervisor provides oversight for the Nursing department and addresses patient care, staffing, and any other issues that may arise. The Nursing Supervisor supervises nurses and staff and takes administrative responsibilities and ensures adequate staffing for the oncoming shift. Handles occurrences during the shift, ensuring appropriate documentation and communication. Additionally, Nursing Supervisor determines the issues to be referred to the Administrator on call. Collaborates with patients, family members and physicians to ensure needs are met and problems are resolved. The Nursing Supervisor manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has authority for personnel actions up to Final Written Warning and Suspension approval from DON/CNO/CCO/HR Manager.

Demonstrates technical skills required to fulfill job duties. Is able to pass annual core competency evaluations with minimal re-training needs identified.
Audits to be completed as required; critical labs log, foley check, sitter validation. Daily assessment, Restraint order completion, code blue and RRT tracking. Assist new admissions, heparin and vasoactive gtt monitoring, GLS review, PCT review, employee evaluations, new education roll out, attend nursing leadership meetings, complete and sign nursing timesheets, complete own timesheets for approval.
Graduate of an accredited nursing program and/or Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
Licensure and registration by CA BRN.
At least three (3) years of clinical experience in an acute care environment and management background preferred.
Current BLS and ACLS certification.

Responsibilities

Assists in daily schedule maintenance to appropriately use hourly wages of staff and stop undue overtime.
Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of CVSH, as well as the Nursing department.
Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire, safety, emergency management and infection prevention and control. Maintains regulatory requirements, including all federal, state, local regulations and accrediting organization standards.
Ensure that all staff members deliver care in accordance with the Standards of Care and Practice during assigned shift, and all hospital policies and procedures are being followed and act as a resource to the staff.
Responsibilities for compliance with regulatory agencies, state and regulatory standards and patient rights standards, OSHA regulations, and risk management.
Review occurrences during shift, conduct investigations, reassess any involved parties, follow up on documentation and notification of all necessary individuals, close out all occurrences, and develop corrective action plans as needed.
Participates in performance improvement team. Perform nurse to nurse, facility doc to doc, and obtain admission orders for intake as needed.
Act as a resource for patient advocacy and document accordingly.
Continually evaluates the activities, morale and interpersonal relationships of the staff and promote methods to improve these areas.
Monitor medical records for appropriate documentation of care and effectiveness and nursing functions as assigned.
Round on the Nursing Floors of the time and routinely review job assignments and utilization of staff.
Assist DON/CNO/CEO with directing the provision of 24-hour nursing services for the facility and available to come in as necessary in case of staffing emergencies/shortage and/or any other reason within reasonable time frame.
Ensure that the staff schedule and configuration will meet the needs and demands of the patient population and census and adjust it accordingly.
Assist with recruitment and interviewing potential staff.
Other duties as assigned when required.
Assists with utilization initiatives such as sitter reduction, fall reduction, appropriate telemetry use.
