DEPARTMENT: Obstetrics JOB TITLE: Nursing Supervisor & Educator SHIFT: FTE 0.9 (72 hours bi-weekly),Days The OB Supervisor at Cameron Hospital is responsible for assessing, planning, coordinating, and evaluating orientation, continuing education and in-service programs for obstetrical staff which are competency based. Recommend improvements in the quality of nursing practice and standards. Serve as a resource to staff. Develop and promote standards to enhance quality of care to clients, families, and communities through evidence-based practice. Conduct research to improve patient outcomes. Assist staff and OB Director as directed. As the OB Educator this position is also responsible for coordinating and facilitating education opportunities for OB clinical staff and providers. The OB Educator at Cameron Hospital coordinates care between the hospital and OBGYN offices for expectant parents through the Special Touch Delivery Program. The OB Educator coordinates and conducts Childbirth and Newborn Classes for expectant parents.

Requirements

  • 5 years’ experience as a registered nurse
  • RN experienced in obstetrics is required, prefer 5 years’ experience either in labor and delivery, postpartum or newborn care.
  • Proficient in fetal monitoring interpretation.
  • Proficient in computer skills.
  • Current Indiana RN license.
  • BLS within 6 months of hire
  • NRP certification within 6 months of hire and NRP instructor within 1 year of hire
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in prenatal education and staff education is preferred
  • Experience in teaching Childbirth Education classes is preferred.
  • Certified Lactation Counselor preferred
  • Childbirth Education certification preferred (ie ICEA, DONA, Bradley, Lamaze) or obtain within 2 years of hire is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred or enrolled within six months of start date and completed within 2 years from date enrolled.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement maternal/child education for OB Staff and Providers.
  • Develop new hire orientation and oversee orientation of all new hires in OB.
  • Assist with house wide education in collaboration with the Clinical Education team.
  • Facilitates and ensures the success of the Special Tough Delivery Program.
  • Support and effectively promote Cameron Hospital Obstetric Department.
  • To keep current on own education and knowledge of Obstetrics, and work on the unit as needed
  • Monitors the orientee’s progress/performance and provides instruction and counseling as necessary; also making appropriate recommendations to the department director.
  • In collaboration with the department director develops evidence-based standards, policies, protocols, and procedures for clinical areas, educates staff and assists with ensuring compliance.
  • Participates in nursing’s performance improvement planning, implementation, monitoring, and action plan as directed in collaboration with the department director.
  • Demonstrates leadership and team building skills necessary to coordinate activities and motivate all levels of staff.
  • Demonstrates initiative and high interest in teaching others.
  • Demonstrates well-developed interpersonal skills necessary to interact in a professional manner with physicians and other healthcare professionals, patients, families, and community members.
  • Adaptable to a flexible schedule to include day, evening, weekend and holiday hours as needed.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and a commitment to Cameron Hospital’s guiding principles and values.
  • Develops/revises/conducts ongoing QAPIs or KPIs.
  • Demonstrates proficiency of Pyxis, electronic health records and administrative knowledge of Nursing reference product.
  • May assist Director in hiring, counseling, and evaluating employees.
  • Complete payroll when Director is absent.
  • Participates in unit/department departmental hospital committee task forces as assigned.
