About The Position

The Nursing Summer Intern is responsible for providing basic patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse and other healthcare team members. This position is designed for students pursuing a nursing career to gain hands-on experience in a hospital setting. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability to be successful.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older; 17-year-old applicants may qualify if they are currently enrolled in a nursing program
  • Obtain and maintain CPR Certification required
  • Ability to successfully complete telemetry class to obtain basic knowledge of cardiac rhythms, within the first year of employment.
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with prevalent professional demeanor
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation

Responsibilities

  • Make complete rounds and check condition of assigned patients to ensure maximum care and to determine need for additional or modified services.
  • Provide basic nursing care to the medical-surgical patient as well as willingly assist with care of patients in other departments and notify registered nurse of changes in patient condition or status.
  • Interact with all visitors, providers, coworkers and other departments in a customer friendly, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Ensures all patient information is kept confidential.
  • Adheres to patient rights policies.
  • Openness to new approaches, methods or technology in the ever-changing healthcare setting.
