About The Position

The Nursing Station Technician on the 39 bed Oncology unit assists adult patients with oncologic malignancies, focusing on gynecology, oncology, colorectal, and plastic surgery patients. Services include surgical care, chemotherapy, blood administration, and managing complex medication and infusion therapies for patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic surgeries, procedures, and interventions. This is a hybrid position combining Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator roles, delivering direct patient care and administrative duties. The role involves working under the direct supervision of a professional nurse, demonstrating excellent customer service, teamwork, and communication skills in a fast-paced environment. This position is .6 FTE (48 hours per 2-week pay period), working 8-hour day (7am-3:30pm) and evening (3pm-11:30pm) shifts with every other weekend rotation.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required (OnTrack participants need to acquire the certification upon completion of the OnTrack program)
  • Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program
  • Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)
  • Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program
  • Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire (This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech)

  • Previous experience as a Health Unit Coordinator, Nursing Assistant, or other related experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient care tasks such as personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding
  • Maintain unit desk area functions including answering phones, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests
  • Set up and maintain patient rooms
  • Order and stock supplies
