About The Position

The Nursing Specialty Tech (NST) ER - Behavioral Health position at Prisma Health involves assisting the Registered Nurse in providing patient care based on individualized care plans. The NST performs basic nursing activities, including those requiring sterile techniques, and additional clinical responsibilities as necessary for the patient population served. Responsibilities include conducting data collection, monitoring and documenting patient status, ensuring confidentiality of patient information, and utilizing safe patient handling practices. The NST informs the RN of activities performed, observations of patients, and any changes in patient status, while also maintaining a clean and neat patient environment.

Requirements

  • Job-related course work such as Nursing Assistant, PCT, CMA, EMT, Paramedic, Surgical Technology, or Phlebotomy preferred.
  • No experience required; one (1) year of experience in relevant fields preferred.
  • Licensed or certified in field of training (Nursing Assistant, CMA, EMT, Paramedic, Surgical Tech, Phlebotomy, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Nursing Assistant, PCT, CMA, EMT, Paramedic, Surgical Tech, Phlebotomist, or Medical Corpsman.

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient care as delegated by the RN, including sterile and non-sterile soaks, application of dressings, perineal care, removal of Foley catheters, basic ostomy care, nasal cannula, phlebotomy, EKGs, and incentive spirometry.
  • Assists with casting and splinting.
  • Completes orders per established protocol and under the direction of the RN.
  • Performs data collection including vital signs, fluid intake and output, and specimen collection.
  • Documents and maintains data on medical records and informs RN of activities performed and changes in patient status.
  • Charts all observations, clinical data, and procedures performed in EMR.
  • Performs point of care testing as trained and delegated by RN and reports lab values to RN.
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living and transports patients to diagnostic studies and floor assignments.
  • Assists with positioning and ambulating patients and fall prevention interventions.
  • Provides and documents comfort and non-pharmacological pain management measures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
