About The Position

Fort Valley State University Cooperative Extension Program (FVSU-CEP) is an educational resource dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for Georgians and beyond through research base initiatives and programs. The Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) area focuses on helping families in acquiring the knowledge, skills, attitudes and changed behavior necessary to build strong resilient families. The Department of Nursing will focus on family health care by targeting at-risk populations via education; and provide health counseling related to health maintenance, disease prevention and illness patterns. Fort Valley State University's Cooperative Extension Program/Department of Nursing is seeking an Outreach Nursing Specialist /Lab Coordinator. The position is 75% Extension and 25% teaching based in Cooperative Extension. This position includes planning and designing programs for community-based implementation to support students, county staff, Mobile Health Unit through health educational outreach to Georgia residents.

Requirements

  • Master of Science degree in Nursing.
  • 3 years clinical nursing experience.
  • 1-year in nursing academia.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs in health for community-based implementation to support county staff and Mobile Health Unit through educational outreach to Georgia residents.
  • Provides leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of research/evidence based integrative statewide extension programs in health that meet the needs of limited resources, diverse and underserved audiences.
  • Collaborate with county staff, program leadership, campus departments, medical, federal, and local agencies to address chronic disease, obesity prevention and health equity and its associated health problems for program implementation with Mobile Health Unit.
  • Develop health education material for the benefit of the communities served by Extension.
  • Provides training and educational support material for county-based staff and their clientele and community public health through policy, systems, and environmental changes (PSE's).
  • Develop proposals to secure funding to expand health outreach programs.
  • Provide individual health counseling related to health maintenance, disease prevention and illness patterns. Inform individuals about state resources available to them.
  • Provide support to care partners.
  • Coordinates and supervises assessment and simulation labs.
  • Collaborates with course faculty to maintain lab supplies and equipment.
  • Assists in developing and implementing clinical scenarios for simulation experiences.
  • Operates and maintains simulations.
  • Provides individual oversight to students during practice and/or remediation of nursing skills.
  • Attending departmental meetings.
  • Teaching in didactic portion of nursing courses as needed.
