About The Position

The Nursing Shift Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and supervising nursing activities during assigned shifts at the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center. This role ensures adequate nursing staff levels to meet patient needs, schedules relief coverage, acts as a clinical resource, and represents nursing administration in the absence of higher management. The position requires strong leadership and communication skills to implement policies, oversee nursing care, and promote excellent customer service.

Requirements

  • Current, valid and unrestricted Registered Nurse license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university
  • Three years of full-time experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care hospital, with one year in a supervisory role

  • Experience in quality improvement activities
  • Familiarity with disaster procedures in a hospital setting

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and coordinates hospital nursing activities on an assigned shift
  • Serves as a clinical resource for patient care needs
  • Acts as resource person in the absence of administration
  • Participates in special projects/assignments and quality improvement activities
  • Represents nursing administration on evening, night and weekend shifts in the absence of the Director of Inpatient Nursing Operations
  • Recommends policies and procedures to improve nursing services
  • Implements nursing administrative policies, procedures and standards for nursing staff
  • Schedules relief nursing coverage for all units and for all shifts
  • Initiates disaster procedures in the absence of hospital administration as needed
  • Ensures adherence to State regulations and Joint Committee on Accreditation of Hospital regulations
  • Arranges for call-ins of ancillary staff as necessary
  • Makes rounds to oversee nursing care
  • Interprets hospital policies and procedures to staff, patients and visitors
  • Provides and promotes excellence in customer service for both internal and external customers
