About The Position

The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practitioner is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs that promote the professional growth, competence, and ongoing development of nursing staff. This role supports clinical staff through evidence-based education, skill development, and continuous learning initiatives to enhance patient care quality and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required
  • 4+ years of clinical nursing experience
  • 2+ years in nursing education, staff development, or professional development
  • Registered Nurse

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in nursing education preferred
  • NPD Certification Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Orientation/Onboarding: Develops and delivers orientation programs for newly hired nursing staff
  • Ensures orientation content aligns with policies and procedures
  • Incorporates topics required by regulatory and accrediting agencies
  • Facilitates new hire access to the organization's systems (e.g., electronic health record, medication dispensing, etc.)
  • Competency management Develops and manages competencies on an ongoing and as needed basis
  • Coordinates with department leadership to ensure ongoing competence of staff
  • Provides and/or plans staff training to ensure competence with new equipment or processes
  • Evaluates competency program
  • Ensures criteria meets compliance, quality, and regulatory need
  • Education Conducts practice gap analyses and learning needs assessments to develop targeted educational interventions.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates education programs and curriculum
  • Coordinates continuing education programming in adherence with accreditation requirements.
  • Demonstrates program innovation
  • Utilizes technology and simulation-based learning tools to enhance the educational experience
  • Role Development Develops and maintains role transition programs for new-to-practice staff and staff transitioning from one specialty or role to another in alignment with accreditation requirements
  • Develops and provides initial and ongoing preceptor development programs
  • Supports clinical advancement models
  • Collaborative Partnerships Collaborates with other departments as needed to facilitate high-quality, cost-effective patient care
  • Develops and provides interprofessional education in collaboration with interprofessional colleagues
  • Participates in interprofessional councils/ committees
  • Work closely with clinical leaders, educators, and interdisciplinary teams to align educational programs with organizational goals and patient care standards.
  • Inquiry & Evaluation Oversees and participates in research, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Collects and analyzes data
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs through feedback, competency outcomes, and quality improvement metrics.
  • Stay current with nursing trends, evidence-based practices, and adult learning methodologies; participate in professional development activities.
