About The Position

The Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) is seeking a Nurse Manager. This role provides managerial and clinical leadership to assure that all staff provide safe clinical care and have the education, methods, and resources to accomplish their performance objectives. Simply stated, our mission is: Changing Medicine. Changing Lives. ® Position Responsibilities: Human Resource Management : hiring, develop, manage performance of nursing and other related CSU staff. Follow and apply leave management policies. Knowledgeable of and implement human resources policies/procedures and provisions in the collective bargaining agreements. Work with contracted partner to manage ambulance drivers. Financial Management : Prepare budget or assist in development; provide projections and recommendations. Monitor and maintain unit/clinic operating budget within specified targets. Analyze variances and create action plans to take corrective action. Understand financial implications of collective bargaining agreements. Assist in contract negotiations and requirements for ambulance driver coverage. Operations, Standards of Care, Regulatory Compliance, Quality and Patient Satisfaction: Use expert knowledge and skill of compliance standards. Lead development and implementation of procedures and quality improvement. Provide leadership to establish and/or maintain efficient and effective systems to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Identify trends and determine quality initiatives and priorities. Allocate resources to meet quality and productivity expectations. Review patient satisfaction data and develop, implement, and evaluate plan(s) to enhance patient satisfaction. Ensure unit/clinic is survey ready. Patient Care Services/ Services Delivery: Assess care coordination within multidisciplinary team to maximize patient satisfaction and continuity of care. Identify needs, trends, and forecasts to provide quality patient care and ensure appropriate flex staffing. Communication & Collaboration: Advocate for needs of CSU unit with healthcare leaders. Facilitate multidisciplinary participation in clinical problem solving. Utilize unit resources to identify opportunities for improvement and innovative models of care using a multidisciplinary team to impact patient outcomes. Education: Educate and mentor staff in the management of complex patient care issues. Provide clinical education and coaching to develop staff competency and professionalism. Provide expert specialty-level education to healthcare staff, patients, students, or residents. Communicate detailed, complex medical and technical information to a variety of audiences. Research Administration: Encourage staff to participate in evidence-based practice research initiatives and incorporate best practices into operations.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field. If Master’s Degree is in related field, Baccalaureate in Nursing is required. If qualified applicant does not have Master’s Degree in Nursing, the applicant will need to complete an advanced degree in nursing, health care administration, or business administration within five years of beginning this position.
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa or ability to obtain an Iowa license by date of hire is required.
  • Certification in a role or specialty through a nationally recognized professional certification body. If not currently certified, must seek certification in a role or specialty as soon as eligible to sit for the exam
  • Considerable (3-5 years) psychiatric emergency or psychiatric nursing experience
  • Some experience (2-3 years) in a leadership/management role including clinical experience or acute care.
  • Experience and demonstrated leadership
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be proficient in computer software applications
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions
  • Professional job-related experience fostering or promoting a welcoming and respectful work/academic environment where people of all backgrounds and perspectives feel welcomed and appreciated; or demonstrated the ability to do so

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of psychiatric emergency care or psychiatric nursing experience preferred.
  • Doctorate of Nursing Practice
  • Experience with scheduling and ELMS
  • Experience with performance management
  • Previous experience working in a large academic medical center.
