Interns will work within the nursing process to provide nursing care to patients. Serves as a role model to promote positive work environment and quality patient care. This role is to provide enhanced education and experience to nursing students as they transition from a student to a registered nurse. Nursing interns are allowed to perform duties under the guidance of the registered nurse as they are working under the licensure of the RN.

Requirements

  • Senior year student nurse of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Basic Life Support through American Heart Association.
  • Knowledge of general nursing theory and practice.
  • Ability to read and write in English.
  • Ability to communicate with patients, families, staff, physicians, support agencies, vendors and others.
  • Ability to remain calm under stress.
  • Ability to respond to pages.
  • Ability to evaluate and interpret information and make independent decisions.
  • Bending, lifting (25 lbs. minimum), grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling.
  • Ability to understand and interpret financial data.
  • Ability to evaluate and interpret information and make independent decisions.
  • Able to identify appropriate data and interprets its significance to clinical and operational activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a certified nurse aide or EMT – Basic preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates leadership in the provision of services through a collaborative process designed to integrate services/functions throughout NWTHS.
  • Participates in and supports a process to measure, assess, and improve performance of management, clinical, and/or support services.
  • Maintain accountability for overall processes affecting unit functioning by demonstrating improvement in at least one process or outcome annually with supportive documentation.
  • Maintains regulatory compliance as related to The Joint Commission, Texas Department of State Health Services, and the Board of Nursing.
  • Assures implementation and evaluation of new and/or enhanced services.
  • Utilizes clinical and leadership experience and expertise to facilitate, measure, evaluate, and interpret care needs of patients and performance of staff, to achieve the highest quality of care to patients served.
