Requirements

  • a master’s degree in nursing (the transcripts you are attaching must show that the degree was awarded)
  • have a current California active license as a Registered Nurse
  • at least one year of experience teaching courses related to registered nursing, OR have completed a post-baccalaureate course which includes practice in teaching registered nursing
  • at least one year of continuous, full-time experience within the last five years in a direct patient care practice as a registered nurse in Psychiatric Mental Health, OR already be approved by the BRN as a clinical instructor in Psychiatric Mental Health
  • demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff
  • a fully satisfied, lifetime California Community College credential authorizing instruction/service in the appropriate subject matter
  • the equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Three or more years of experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse in psychiatric/behavioral health is favored.
  • Experience in another specialty area (med/surg; pediatric; obstetrics; geriatrics; critical/ED care.
  • Teaching experience within the last 5 years in an accredited/approved nursing program or in teaching new graduates in acute or ambulatory settings.
  • Commitment to examine, reflect, and modify instructional, relational, classroom practices to more effectively engage and support disproportionately impacted student populations with a goal of closing equity gaps (see Student Equity website at https://www.miracosta.edu/student-services/student-equity/index.html ).
  • Ability to contribute to the mission of the college.
