About The Position

The Nursing Instructor reports to the Healthcare Program Director. As instructed by the Program Director or designee, the instructor is responsible for the provision of the State of California approved healthcare training program. The instructor contributes to the students’ educational development through quality classroom instruction, provides hands-on supervision of the students in an internship setting, and provides high quality career preparation to meet identified educational and industry needs. The instructor provides career entry occupational instruction according to State of California Department of Health Services requirements, as well as, to industry requirements. The instructor will also work with the other Goodwill SOLAC staff assigned to the Healthcare Academy to ensure all students obtain a high level of education and skill sets that will make them successful in the healthcare industry.

Requirements

  • Must maintain a current State of California Licensed Vocational Nurse certification plus have at least two years of experience in the provision of nursing services of which at least one year must be in the provision of direct patient care in a nursing facility.
  • Must be certified through the State of California Department of Health Services as a Director of Staff Development and must maintain a State of California Vocational Designated Subjects teaching credential.
  • At least two years professional Nurse experience, with at least one year of which must be in the provision of direct care in a nursing facility

Responsibilities

  • Participates in a “team approach” for meeting the program supports, skills training, work experience, life skills and unsubsidized employment/supported employment work needs of people served.
  • Develops written course goals and objectives.
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of nurse training programs.
  • Develops teaching strategies to meet the needs of diverse student populations.
  • Develops strategies for classroom management with appropriate consequences to foster a positive and professional learning environment.
  • Promotes and facilitates the integration of technology in instructional programs.
  • Develops and maintains healthcare industry relationships such as nurse associations and continuing education forums.
  • Certifies the successful attainment of competencies, skills and job performance standards for attainment of a State of California Nurse Assistant certification.
  • Maintains State of California nurse certification(s) up to date and valid at all times.
  • Effectively assess the instructional and educational needs of students and design, develop and implement sound training programs.
  • As assigned by the Program Director, represents the agency on pertinent taskforces, committees, and panels.
  • As requested, generates reports as to the effectiveness of the Goodwill SOLAC Healthcare Academy and forwards recommendations regarding the Healthcare Academy programs to the Program Director.
  • Monitors the quality and accountability of the Healthcare Academy program and assures the program meets all State of California Department of Health Services standards and requirements.
  • As required by the State of California Department of Health Services maintains all required paperwork and documentation in and accurate and orderly manner.
  • Must maintain current knowledge of principles, theories, methods, techniques and strategies pertaining to teaching and instruction for the Certified Nurse Assistant program.
