About The Position

Department: Nursing Job Status: Full-Time FLSA Status: Exempt Reports To: Director of the School of Nursing Grade/Level: Master of Science in Nursing Amount of Travel Required: Some Work Schedule: 12-Month contract, 9-Month Teaching Positions Supervised: If faculty member is the Clinical Course Coordinator, they will supervise the Clinical Instructor for assigned class. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Students Fulfill faculty members’ workload requirements through excellence in teaching, course-related advisement, and other activities. Participate in student-faculty members’ activities that serve to strengthen student-faculty member relationships. Participate in student advisement and academic counseling. Plan for clinical experiences for students during direct clinical experiences and participate in orientation of Clinical Partners, if indicated. Create and implement documentative and summative student evaluation. Evaluate theoretical and clinical components of students’ instruction. Inform the Director of the School of Nursing of progress or problems encountered in instruction. Assume responsibility for assigned units of instruction and for examinations. School of Nursing Meet faculty member responsibilities as described in the Benedictine College and School of Nursing faculty handbooks. Contribute to the ongoing program and course improvement. Provide input in the School of Nursing budget. Participate in the selection and orientation of new faculty members. Assist in establishing and maintaining School of Nursing policies and procedures. Participate in maintaining and updating the skills laboratory and multimedia resources. Maintain satisfactory relationships with cooperating agencies. Participate in campus-wide and departmental committees. Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of outcomes and goals for the School of Nursing. Submit Faculty Annual Survey of School of Nursing and Faculty Annual Evaluation. Assist with maintaining necessary records and reports. Ensure appropriateness of assignments and continuity of assignments. If assigned Clinical Course Coordinator Role: Clinical Course Coordinators are responsible for the overall coordinator, quality, and compliance of assigned clinical courses. Duties include: Develop curriculum and syllabus for assigned course Ensure Benedictine College School of Nursing Metrology Policy is implemented Ensure students and Clinical Instructors and students complete all site-specific requirements prior to starting direct clinical experiences Ensure the Clinical Hours Tracking Document is updated as needed Assign clinical make-up assignments Mediate any clinical concerns Manage the Learning Management System (LMS) for the course Coordinate simulation experiences with Simulation coordinator Assist with any incidents and reporting of incidents. See Incident and Misconduct Report Consult with the Director and relevant faculty about clinical cancellations. See Benedictine College School of Nursing Inclement Weather Policy Complete Clinical Course Report Ensure required surveys are completed Notify Program Coordinator of all classroom, laboratory, and work study needs Coordinate laboratory and simulation schedules with Simulation Coordinator, Work Study Students, Laboratory Assistants, and Nursing Faculty Review and update Skills by Semester and Student Skills Guidelines. Notify students, Academic Support Coordinator, Clinical Instructors/Faculty Supervisors of any changes In addition to general responsibilities listed above, Non-Precepted Clinical Course Coordinator s shall: Supervise Clinical Instructors for assigned course. See Clinical Instructors without a Graduate Degree Protocol Collect Clinical Student Information Document from students and distribute to Clinical Instructors Provide orientation for Clinical Instructors for the course Mentor Clinical Instructors Delegate grading to Clinical Instructors Support Clinical Instructors with planning and facilitation of pre-conference and post-conference activities In addition to the general responsibilities listed above, Precepted Clinical Course Coordinators shall: Supervise Supervising Faculty for assigned course. Orientation will include: A review of the mission, goals, and curricular outline of the Nursing Program End-of-program student learning outcomes (EPSLO) Course objectives Guidance for supporting student achievement of course objectives Role and responsibilities of the faculty member, Preceptor, and nursing student Performance expectations of the student nurse Preceptor’s feedback responsibilities Avenues of communication Nursing student assignments Expected level of knowledge, skills, and abilities of the nursing student Delegate grading to Supervising Faculty Update Preceptor Handbook Provide Orientation to Preceptors Ensure policies for the Preceptor are followed. Requirements

  • Masters of Science in Nursing.
  • Unrestricted licensure to practice as a Registered Nursing (RN)in the state of Kansas.
  • Unrestricted licensure to practice as a RN in the state where acting as a Clinical Instructor if indicated.
  • 3 years professional nursing experience.
  • 2 years of experience in relevant clinical area if Clinical Course Coordinator.
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others both verbally and nonverbally.
  • Ability to find a solution for or to deal proactively with work-related problems.
  • Ability to comprehend complex technical topics and specialized information.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks under stressful situations.
  • Remain current with the changing trends in nursing education and practice.
  • Participate in professional and community activities related to the improvement of health care.
  • Maintain personal growth and development through ongoing faculty development activities.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
  • Remain current with the changing trends in nursing education and practice.
  • Follow job requirements for other roles within the School of Nursing as assigned.
  • Maintain expertise in relevant areas of teaching.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctorate in Nursing or Education highly preferred.
  • Certification in area teaching or as a Nurse Educator is preferred.
  • 2 years of teaching experience in an academic or healthcare setting preferred.
