About The Position

The Director of Nursing is the clinical leader for RNs, LPNs, and Charge Nurses throughout the affiliate. The incumbent ensures that all nursing staff are fully trained and capable of performing all aspects of their assignments. The Director engages with all clinical staff in a manner that promotes high morale, excellent patient-centered care, and creates a professional and caring work environment. In coordination with PPGP’s medical leadership and Learning and Development team, the Director designs and provides training to the affiliate’s nursing staff and monitors compliance with nursing-related regulatory requirements as defined by the state, federal, PPFA standards and guidelines, and Planned Parenthood of Great Plains (PPGP) policies and guidelines. The director addresses training, risk management, and patient satisfaction issues in a timely manner and is accountable for performance outcomes within clinical settings.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing and active RN compact license Missouri and Kansas
  • Five to eight years supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated ability to train and develop health care professionals
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve successful health center outcomes in a shared leadership setting
  • Demonstrated commitment to employees and patient engagement
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records, office applications including Word and Excel
  • Clinical skills including sedation, IV placement and phlebotomy management
  • BLS certification required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a surgical center or PACU
  • Experience conducting adult education or precepting
  • Prefer advanced knowledge of EPIC/EHR system

Responsibilities

  • Plans, assigns, monitors and manages the work of others, including evaluating clinical skills for RNs and LPNs. Ensures skills and competencies are compliant with Planned Parenthood guidelines, policies, procedures, and practices, and state and federal regulations.
  • In coordination with the VP of Health Services and health center leadership, develops, maintains, and communicates nursing schedules to ensure appropriate staffing. Guides and assists HCMs with RN/LPN health center schedules. Additionally, coordinates the on-call nursing schedule.
  • Actively participates in the recruitment, hiring and training of nurses per PPGP policy and guidelines.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates the onboarding program for new nursing staff.
  • Coaches and mentors direct reports. Identifies and addresses training needs for nursing staff.
  • Monitors productivity and professional standards and ensures standards are met or exceeded. The Director participates in periodic complication reviews with the medical leadership team.
  • Partners with the Learning and Development Team in the development and implementation of clinical training programs.
  • Partners with administrative staff in addition to clinical leadership to ensure all performance expectations are met.
  • Reviews performance and evaluates results achieved by direct reports. Provides quarterly feedback on performance to charge nurses, RNs, LPNs, and HCMs to be shared with individual staff members.
  • Partners with the Associate Medical Directors, Chief Medical Officer and VP of Health Services to establish nursing-specific standards of quality, productivity, and performance. Provides staff with ongoing feedback regarding the status of these standards and provides direction in resolving issues.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies governing care delivery and the rules of accrediting bodies. Regularly reviews audit and quality improvement activities and makes recommendations and implements improvements.
  • Actively partners with the pharmacy director to ensure sufficient supplies of prescription medications are available.
  • Conducts regular site reviews at health centers that provide abortion care. Regular travel will include locations within the KC metro area and one-day or overnight visits to other facilities.
  • Evaluates and recommends new technology to assist in performance of duties and ensure that licensed staff are competent with new equipment and procedures as evidenced by observation and documentation.
  • Understands racial inequities and the impact on healthcare systems. Ensures a lens of health equity when evaluating outcomes, patient experience and team member experiences.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to safety for all staff by participating in emergency drills, engaging with the security team as needed, and finding opportunities to reinforce all safety requirements with health serv ices team members.
  • Participates in the roll-out of new services and procedures.
  • Participates in direct patient care as needed.
