About The Position

Directs the day to day operations of Children’s Hospital and Women’s Inpatient Services in the provision of nursing care to patients and their families. Directs the activities of patient care and support staff and provides consultation and assistance in communication with the entire range of the served patient population. Serves as a liaison for the provision of care for pediatric patients in the Perioperative Environment and Emergency Department. Responsibilities include effective resource utilization, program and policy development, implementation and evaluation. As a member of the nursing leadership team, the individual demonstrates clinical expertise and will be involved in continuous quality improvement, customer service, resource and financial management, efficient and effective system processes and professional development. These roles are responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients admitted to the hospital. Inpatient RNs monitor patient conditions, administer medications, assist in treatments, and collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure high-quality care in various hospital units. Develops programs which address continuous quality improvement, system enhancement, streamlined processes and overall nurse performance. Provide consultation and assistance in communication with the entire range of the served patient population. Develops and supports staff in fulfilling departmental philosophy, goals, objectives and priorities consistent with those of the organization. Participate in leadership activities to support the strategic plan of the Medical Center. Provides oversight for areas of responsibility and guidance/mentoring for the leaders of those areas. Determines the need for and priority of allocation of human, space, fiscal and material resources. Accurately forecasts and manages budget for the department(s) and ensures that any expenditures are within the budget. Conducts process improvement activities to increase efficiency and improve service across the service line. In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from accredited nursing program.
  • Master's degree in related field within 4 years of hire.
  • 5 or more years of progressive leadership experience.
  • Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
