About The Position

The Nursing Department Assistant - Clinic assists the RN’s, LVN’s and physicians in the nursing department by performing necessary clerical duties and with assisting with patient treatment as directed. Ability to manage multiple tasks and to work with other staff and departments within a team to ensure quality patient care.   With traumatic brain injury, life changes in an instant. Work is full-time during the weekdays, Monday- Friday from 7:30a.m. to 4:30p.m. Work is primarily at the clinic with occasional work at the residential site or in the community.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or G.E.D. required. Some college preferred.
  • Licensing as Medical Assistant (MA) required.
  • Excellent computer skills needed.
  • 1 year experience as Neuro Rehabilitation Specialist, or experience in rehabilitation or related field is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license. Must be a cleared driver.

Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibilities are assisting with activities in nursing department including nursing desk triage, answering phones, and clerical duties including data entry utilizing the computer and Lotus Notes system. Performs organizational/administrative projects such as filing and typing. Sets up doctor appointments at direction of nurses. Sets up, maintains and dismantles patient charts in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for passing medication to patients, including controlled and PRN medications, assisting with self-administration, documentation of med passes, and g-tube feedings after training by nursing department and on-going monitoring by nursing department. Does medication checks. Reports observations to nursing. Must be aware of standing routine medication orders and utilize appropriately with nursing direction. Provides follow-up staff training on medication distribution as needed.
  • Monitoring and/or recording of vital signs, including temperature and blood pressure readings, pulse, respirations to report to nursing as needed. Will do finger stick blood sugars as needed. Apply first aid if required.
  • Participates in tracking inventories and/or ordering of stock medications, first aid supplies/kits, and medical supply articles. May move boxes weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Performs documentation in electronic system. Gathers information for nursing reports to assist nurses in patient report preparation.
