About The Position

A professional registered nurse who functions under the supervision of the course and/or semester coordinator in conjunction with nursing department administrators. This person assumes responsibility for collaborating with other teaching faculty to achieve the mission, purposes, and program objectives/expected outcomes. The primary responsibility of this position involves supervision of students in the clinical area.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN). Master's degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise and ongoing involvement in clinical practice in the nursing area.
  • Minimum of one year of clinical experience required.
  • Minimum of one year in clinical area of supervision.
  • Current and up to date RN license and Healthcare Provider CPR for healthcare provider card through American Heart Association and renewed bi-annually with return demonstration.

Responsibilities

  • Supports and implements the mission, goals, purposes, and policies of Biola University and the Department of Nursing.
  • Participates with nursing faculty members in departmental meetings, as available.
  • Participates in collaboration with and in support of the faculty member in the selection of learning experiences in the clinical area appropriate to the program objectives/expected outcomes, course objectives and the semester of the student.
  • Serves as a Christian professional role model, displaying theoretical and clinical expertise to students.
  • Maintains an atmosphere which facilitates critical thinking and learning.
  • Encourages each student to assume increasing responsibility for learning and personal development.
  • In collaboration with and in support of the faculty member, makes resource materials and other independent study materials available to students.
  • Provides the students with orientation to the clinical agency and interprets pertinent policies.
  • Maintains the student record system established in conjunction with the course coordinator.
  • Develops and implements a plan for regular clinical conferences.
  • Implements formative and summative evaluation providing students with feedback on performance at frequent intervals in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Utilizes student learning agreements appropriately in conjunction with the course coordinator.
  • Implements a plan for regular student evaluation of learning experiences.
  • Maintains availability for student consultation at least two hours each week.
  • Provides for appropriate supervision for all students in the clinical setting; takes immediate corrective action if client safety is endangered.
  • Conducts pre-planning and post-evaluation conferences with nursing personnel in the agency at the beginning and ending of student experiences.
  • Provides agencies with information about the program and makes specific student objectives available to the nursing staff.
  • Attends pertinent meetings in the agency for the purposes of sharing information concerning curriculum and course planning, keeping informed of new policies and advances, and solving mutual problems.
  • Establishes a congenial collegial relationship with agency staff.
  • Attends course team meetings to discuss the integration of theory and clinical, and to problem solve issues related to student progress.
  • Maintains currency of expertise in relation to trends and innovations in nursing practice, nursing education, and nursing research.
  • Pursues clinical practice sufficient to maintain clinical expertise.
