About The Position

Are you passionate about teaching and empowering future nurses? UW-Madison School of Nursing is seeking committed and enthusiastic Clinical Faculty to join our team. As Clinical Faculty, you will have the opportunity to share your knowledge and expertise with the next generation of nurses, ensuring they receive a comprehensive education and are well-prepared for their professional careers. In this role, you will work closely with nursing students in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program and will be assigned to teach didactic and experiential (clinical) courses in acute care and may provide instruction in simulated care environments. Depending on expertise, qualifications, and program needs, it is also possible to be assigned to teach in undergraduate or PhD programs. This is a C-basis (9-month) position. This position requires most work to be performed in-person, onsite, or at a designated campus or clinical work location. Employment in this position is contingent upon the successful candidates’ ability to provide satisfactory documentation for various medical clearances and certifications, as required by the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Nursing and/or its affiliated clinical partners. Examples of required medical clearances and certifications include, but are not limited to: RN license, negative TB status, COVID vaccination, MMR, varicella, hepatitis B, and others. This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years. Official transcripts will be required upon hire.

Requirements

  • One or more years of experience in teaching at undergraduate or graduate levels in nursing, or in professional staff development in acute care settings; and
  • One or more years of professional experience and certification as a DNP-Acute Care Advanced Practice Nurse and licensure in Wisconsin (or eligibility) as an Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
  • Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong interest in and commitment to the teaching mission of the School of Nursing.
  • ACNP - Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
  • APNP or APRN - Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
  • RN – Registered Nurse – Wisconsin State Licensure or eligible for licensure in Wisconsin or eligible for licensure in Wisconsin
  • Doctor of Nursing Practice

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with clinical instruction, active learning, competency or concept-based teaching, simulation, and inter-professional education is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach in DNP programs and baccalaureate (accelerated, traditional, and AD to BSN completion) or PhD programs based on school/program needs.
  • Teach using accepted course descriptions, course objectives, and content delivery approaches including assuring students meet expectations for required clinical hours if assigned to teach clinical courses.
  • Teach using strategies to include active learning, simulated experiential learning, and clinical experiential learning in hospitals or other health care settings as required by course assignments.
  • Collaborate with other faculty on curriculum and course planning at the graduate and undergraduate levels, using concept-based and competency-based teaching and learning assessment strategies.
  • Engage in other activities appropriate to a member of the School of Nursing academic community such as attending School meetings, participating in faculty development activities, and contributing to meeting the mission and vision of the School.
  • Contribute to the School of Nursing mission through service activities (e.g., governance committees, outreach activities, or project task groups).
  • Pursue areas of scholarly interest (e.g., evaluation studies to improve teaching and learning).
  • Collaborate with colleagues in practice settings through academic-practice partnerships to contribute to student learning, practice improvement, or community outreach.
  • Work to support and enhance the climate of excellence.
