The central role of the Nurse Care Team Assistant (NCTA) is to support the Registered Nurse by performing basic patient care, patient sitter responsibilities and some non-clinical patient care tasks; thus allowing the Registered Nurse to focus more directly on clinical care. The Nurse Care Team Assistant's role provides direct patient care appropriate to age, culture, and developmental needs under the direction of the Registered Nurse. Works closely with patients to provide physical assistance with daily living tasks, such as dressing, bathing, feeding, toileting, vital signs, catheter care, answering call lights, assisting with ambulation, turning, and ensuring patient safety. Technical skills may include obtaining 12 lead EKG, setting up respiratory equipment and glucometer monitoring. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
