This position is at Duke Raleigh Hospital, a 204-bed campus of Duke University Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina, offering comprehensive services including cancer, cardiovascular, neuroscience, advanced gastrointestinal, and wound healing care. The specific unit, NP 5200, is a 37-bed inpatient adult medical/stepdown oncology unit. This unit focuses on symptom management for oncology patients, administration of chemotherapeutic agents, and end-of-life care, collaborating with various departments and disciplines. The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as a patient care support partner to the Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), performing delegated tasks. The NA provides direct patient care, assists with non-direct patient care unit coordination, and is expected to perform basic care and comfort standards, understanding the needs of the patient population. This role involves assisting the RN with acutely ill patients, practicing medical asepsis, respecting patient dignity, privacy, and cultural differences. The NA must adhere to policies, respond to emergencies, maintain the patient/family environment, manage unit equipment and supplies, and use accurate verbal and written communication for documentation in the electronic health record. Additionally, the NA performs clerical duties related to patient, unit, and hospital data, including operating patient care information systems. Individuals in this role are typically scheduled for NCA I shifts at a minimum of 25% of the time.
