About The Position
The Nursing Assistant functions in a support role to the Registered Professional Nurse by providing direct patient care and related activities as assigned. This includes performing procedures associated with activities of daily living and personal hygiene of the patient, observing, reporting, and recording routine and specific patient data, behaviors and responses to treatment on appropriate flow sheets. The Nursing Assistant also performs procedures associated with the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients, maintenance of food or fluid intake, and excretion of body waste and/or loss of fluids. They provide for safe and comfortable movement of patients, utilize mechanical devices as necessary, and perform simple applications of heat and cold. Additionally, they provide care to the body of deceased patients in preparation for removal to the morgue and support to the family/significant others. The role includes securing property, obtaining, assembling, and maintaining equipment for use during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and assisting members of the health care team with physical exams and other procedures. The Nursing Assistant is responsible for maintaining a clean environment, stocking supplies, and utilizing aggression control measures when necessary. They also perform 1:1 observation of patients on special observation status and attend ongoing staff development to maintain their knowledge base and skills.
