Performs delegated nursing tasks for which competence is demonstrated through the Nursing Assistant skills checklist. Essential Functions: - Understands and satisfies the needs of the neonatal, infant, toddler, pre-school, school-age, adolescent and/or adult patient in regards to their growth and development process. - Performs delegated patient care activities under the direction of a registered nurse. Assists RN and/or physician with patient treatment/procedures as directed. (Patient care activities related to: hygiene, physical cares, intake/nutrition, elimination, ambulation/exercise, routine vital signs/monitoring, respiratory, comfort measures, basic safety procedures) - Measures, documents and appropriately reports physiologic data (vital signs) and observations made of patients or families. Any deviations or changes are verbally reported to the RN and documented in the patient’s medical record (co-signed by the RN). - Provides personal care to patients, such as feeding, toileting, bathing, positioning and ambulation. - Answers patient call lights, prepares patient rooms for admissions, strips rooms after discharges/transfers, changes bed linens, distributes/collects dietary trays, and transports patients under the direction of the RN. - Maintains department supplies and equipment needed for patient care. Ensures equipment and supplies are stored and stocked appropriately. Cleans equipment and supplies after use. Reports any deficiencies or unsafe equipment to the RN or manager immediately. - Supports the unit environmental needs by maintaining cleanliness in the treatment room, isolation room, kitchen, patient care areas, supply area, and the department in general. Keeps patient food refrigerator clean and uncluttered. - Performs basic clerical and communication functions as needed within the unit (phone, order entry, patient inquiry, e-mail, voice-mail, etc.). Education: - High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Currently registered with the State of Wisconsin Registry for Nursing Assistants at the state and federal level. Certified Nursing Assistant certifications are not required to be renewed after hire. - Possesses and competently demonstrates core Nursing Assistant skills as outlined in the skill competency checklist and understands the role of performing delegated tasks. - Possesses a willingness and the initiative to successfully complete educational requirements while developing and learning new skills as required by the unit. - Possesses effective interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact courteously and tactfully with patients, parents/families and members of the health care team. - Possesses rudimentary assessment and analytical skills in order to perform basic patient observations. Licenses and Certifications: - BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council required - CNA-Certified Nurses Assistant - Wisconsin Department of Health Services required Patient Care Responsibility: - Provides care appropriate to patient population and as described in applicable policies and procedures. This document does not create an employment contract, implied or otherwise. Unit Description: West 12 is a 24-bed acute care unit. Nurses on this unit care for medical patients. Some of the main populations include: infants with diagnoses such as fever, rule out sepsis, hyperbilirubinemia, failure to thrive, dehydration, and bronchiolitis; and children of all ages with respiratory illnesses such as asthma, pneumonia, croup, and pertussis. Schedule: This is a PRN position, working as needed on rotating shifts. Must be able to commit to central orientation 8:00am-4:30pm February 16-23. Requirements
