About The Position

The Nursing Assistant is responsible for providing direct care to patients and serving their needs in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort. This role operates under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager, Assistant Head Nurse, and/or Department Director, with potential guidance from an LPN, to support Essentia Health's mission and goals. Duties are varied by patient care unit/department and include personal hygiene care, nutritional assistance, comfort care, safe patient transfers, vital sign monitoring, recordkeeping, recognizing and reporting changes in patient condition to the RN, and maintaining a safe, clean environment. The position requires adherence to the requirements of the Joint Commission and other applicable regulatory agencies and involves floating between PACU and Outpatient Surgery.

Requirements

  • BLS certified or ability to become certified within 1 month from hire date.
  • Must meet one of the following qualifications: 6 months of nursing assistant experience, completion of one semester of clinical rotations within an accredited nursing program, verifiable completion of a recognized nurse aide training program, or current registration on applicable state nursing assistant registry.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care to patients and serve their needs in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort, under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager, Assistant Head Nurse, and/or Department Director (possibly with guidance from an LPN).
  • Provide personal hygiene care.
  • Assist with nutritional needs.
  • Provide comfort care and other assistance.
  • Appropriately and safely transfer patients.
  • Take vital signs and complete recordkeeping.
  • Recognize and promptly report changes in patient condition to the RN.
  • Maintain a safe, clean environment for patients to promote the healing process.
  • Work within job scope to meet the requirements of the Joint Commission and other applicable federal, state and local regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Float between PACU and Outpatient Surgery.
