About The Position

The Nurse Assistant performs various patient care activities and related nonprofessional services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients. The Nursing Assistant assists with patient cleaning, feeding, and preparation for treatment, takes and records vital signs, changes bed linen, prepares treatment trays and other supplies, and assists nursing service personnel with a variety of other patient care duties. Relies on established guidelines to accomplish tasks. Works under close supervision.

Responsibilities

• Assistance is provided in performing data collection (Pulse/BP/Weight).
• Patients are observed closely and reports observations/changes to nurse immediately.
• Assists with transporting & mobility needs of patients as needed.
• Assists patients on exercise equipment as needed.
• Blood sugars performed when required.
• Maintenance of Accu-Chek meter as required.
• Assissts patients with telemetry monitoring as needed.
• Cleans monitors as required.
• Exam/interview rooms and nursing desks are kept in an orderly fashion at all times.
• Accurately and appropriately receives, places, and transfers phone calls.
• Accurately uses fax machine and copy machine.
• Patient needs are anticipated and plans time to respond accordingly and in a minimum amount of time.
• Behavior/physiological changes of assigned patients is monitored and promptly reports changes to assigned/charge nurse.
• Care to the patients need and level of development is adapted appropriately.
• Knowledge of unit based quality improvement initiatives is demonstrated at all times.
• Patient care is documented on appropriate forms accurately and legibly at all times.
• Instructions issued by nurse and to established hospital related to patient care routines and policies are followed at all times.
• Effectively assists with admission and/or discharge of a patient at all times.
• Other duties as assigned are completed.
• Active participation on unit teams, work groups and/ or committees is provided as requested; anticipates needs and voluntarily assists others.
