About The Position

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the Nursing Assistant assumes responsibility for the collection of data related to patient status, performance of basic nursing procedures, on-going collection and documentation of patient data, assistance with treatments and procedures, and assistance with maintenance of patient care equipment. The role involves assisting patients with activities of daily living and hygiene, turning and repositioning patients, transporting patients, assisting with walking, assisting adult/pediatric patients with toileting needs including emptying colostomy bags and urinary catheter removal, assisting with fall prevention interventions and patient restraints, removing and reapplying anti-emboli hose or compression devices, assisting with patient admissions, taking and recording vital signs, preparing patients for meals and assisting in feeding, collecting specimens, documenting in EMR, maintaining cleanliness of hospital rooms and utility areas, disposing of excess linen, and performing point of care testing as delegated by an RN.

Requirements

  • No previous experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Assists patients with activities of daily living and hygiene.
  • Turns and repositions patients alone or with assistance.
  • May transport patients and assist with walking.
  • Assisting adult/pediatric patients with toileting needs in relation to their age including emptying established colostomy bags and urinary catheter removal.
  • Assists with fall prevention interventions and patient restraints as delegated.
  • Removing and reapplying anti-emboli hose or compression devices.
  • Assists with admission of patients to the unit by preparing room, greeting, and orienting patient and/or family to the unit (bed, call light, phone, TV).
  • Takes and records vital signs and with repeating questionable values.
  • Prepares patients for meals and assisting in feeding and providing snacks and supplements.
  • Collects urine, stool, and sputum specimens.
  • Delivers specimens to appropriate department as requested.
  • Completes documentation in EMR in accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintains cleanliness and order of hospital room, utility room, diet kitchen, hallways, and alcoves.
  • Disposes of excess linen and keeps linen emptied.
  • Performs point of care testing as trained and delegated by RN.
  • Reports lab values to RN.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
