About The Position

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and in accordance with hospital and department policies and procedures, the Nursing Assistant assists in caring for patients and/or families from admission through discharge. This paraprofessional role involves providing personal care and related healthcare assistance to individuals who are sick, disabled, or infirm, residing in or receiving services from healthcare facilities or agencies licensed by the State. The incumbent must hold a current Nursing Assistant license issued by the Rhode Island Department of Health. Requirements

  • Current Rhode Island Nursing Assistant license
  • Ability to perform basic computer skills
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care across the lifespan, considering aging processes, human development stages, and cultural diversity

Nice To Haves

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred
  • One (1) year of experience as a Nursing Assistant preferred

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Registered Nurse to organize work and set priorities.
  • Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, performs Personal Care Skills.
  • Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, performs Basic Nursing Assistant Skills as outlined by the Rhode Island Department of Health, Professional Licensing and Facility Regulation.
  • Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, performs Rehabilitation Skills.
  • Assists with activities of daily living.
  • Ambulates patients as appropriate.
  • Reports unsafe conditions or situations to the Registered Nurse, manager, or supervisor.
  • Reports malfunctioning equipment and removes it from service as needed.
  • Communicates all pertinent patient observations to the Registered Nurse.
  • Adheres to infection control and quality assurance standards per hospital and department policies.
  • Accurately documents care in the electronic health record (EHR), patient care flowsheets, and clinical data records.
  • Demonstrates ability to respond appropriately in emergency or code situations.
  • May function as a patient observer.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
