About The Position

This Nursing Assistant position is located in the Community Living Center at the Hot Springs campus of the VA Black Hills Health Care System in SD. The Nursing Assistant functions as a member of a professional nursing care team - assisting licensed nursing staff in the care of Veterans receiving preventative - acute - sub-acute chronic - maintenance - and hospice care. Patient assignments involve both basic and more complex nursing care within a range of predictable to unpredictable requirements. This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until January 28 - 2026 or until all positions have been filled Eligible applications will be referred at regular intervals on an as-needed basis until positions are filled Vacancies may not presently exist for all work schedules but may become available at any point during the open period of this vacancy announcement As a Nursing Assistant with the Community Living Center (CLC) - you will perform a wide range or patient personal care - diagnostic services - treatment - and charting activities on a regular and continuing basis You will deliver safe and individualized nursing care on patients with multiple complex needs Provide care that addresses physical - emotional - rehabilitative - and spiritual needs or veterans You will function as part of a nursing team and care is focused under the Charge RN

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining a clean and safe environment for residents by assisting with light housekeeping tasks such as making beds - changing linens - and tidying up rooms
  • Assisting residents with eating and drinking - including meal setup and feeding if necessary
  • Performs basic patient care activities and duties as assigned - such as taking vitals and recording measurements
  • Assists patients in activities of daily living including bathing - feeding - oral care - hair care and other personal hygiene duties to include maintaining catheter hygiene
  • Accurately documenting care provided and any observations in residents' medical records and reporting to the supervising nurse
  • Assisting medical personnel in the care or treatment of residents with diverse conditions/diagnoses

Benefits

  • Shift Differential - 10% of basic pay for work performed during regularly scheduled hours between 6pm and 6am
  • Weekend Premium - 25% of basic pay for work performed between the hours of midnight Friday and midnight Sunday
  • Holiday Pay - 2 times basic hourly rate for regularly scheduled - non-overtime work on a designated holiday
  • 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave - 13 days of sick leave - 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
  • Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment - up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth - adoption - or foster care placement of a child
  • Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment - full time employees with a total family income below $144 -000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66
  • Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
  • Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
