About The Position

This Nursing Assistant position is located within the Fargo VA Medical Center, Rehabilitation and Extended Care Integrated Clinical Community in Fargo ND. You will be assigned to our Community Living Center where you will care for Veterans in acute, sub-acute, or chronic states of illness; performing aspects of nursing care which require knowledge of physical and behavioral concepts essential for individualized care and the ability to understand complex resident treatment regimens.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination/evaluation.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement.
  • Participation in the COVID-19 vaccination program is a requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with care of acutely ill and more complex residents.
  • Make observations of subtle changes in resident's condition and report to registered nurse.
  • Observe residents for appropriate oxygen administration and perform pulse oximeter readings.
  • Assist the nurse or provider with wound care.
  • Reinforce resident teaching.
  • Participate actively in mandatory reviews, unit meetings and in-services.
  • Manage indwelling urinary catheter bags; emptying, recording and reporting urine output to the nurse.
  • Perform and record blood glucose monitoring and report findings to nurse.
  • Provide 1:1 sitter coverage.
  • Obtain and record temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respirations, pulse oximetry, height, weight and I&O.
  • Remove heparin lock and urinary catheter based on competency.
  • Ensure correct placement of O2 via nasal cannula/mask.
  • Perform EKGs.
  • Exchange oxygen tanks without adjusting oxygen LPM.
  • Transport residents to tests and procedures as directed.
  • Assist in monitoring and documentation of restraints as directed.
  • Maintain and stock supplies on the unit as directed.
  • Demonstrate skill/knowledge/ability to perform treatments, procedures and the use and reprocessing of reusable medical equipment appropriate to assigned duties.
