About The Position

Nursing Assistants/Patient Care Technicians: Full-Time at 36 hours a week, rotating day (6a-6p) and night (6p-6a) shifts Unit: 4 Pavilion/South Medical Cardiology/Internal Medicine About UPMC Shadyside: A Magnet-designated teaching hospital with ongoing research and education About 4 Pavilion/South Medicine & Cardiology Unit: This unit is a 30-bed telemetry, medical-surgical unit that handles a wide variety of diagnoses and patient issues, providing you with the perfect setting to gain invaluable experience and grow your skills. About the Role: Nursing Assistants and Patient Care Technicians provide routine patient care and support the department services in accordance with established policies and procedures. This role will be directed by nurses and/or physicians to ensure that the highest degree of quality patient care can be maintained at all times. Patient care duties may include, but are not limited to, ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning and repositioning patients, and blood glucose), vital signs, simple dressings, EKGs, bladder scans, and all specimen collections. Nursing Support Training: There is a three-day training program required for all candidates who are hired without specific transferable inpatient/hospital experience or a completed nursing student clinical rotation. This training is in-person 7:30a - 4:00p (Tuesday - Thursday) of the first week of employment.

Requirements

Successful completion of UPMC nursing assistant or EIC training program or Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class.
Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques.
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
