Nursing Assistant - PACU
About The Position
The Nursing Assistant is responsible for providing direct care to patients and serving their needs in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort, under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager, Assistant Head Nurse, and/or Department Director (possibly with guidance from an LPN). This role contributes to meeting the mission and goals of Essentia Health. Duties vary by patient care unit/department and include personal hygiene care, assisting with nutritional needs, providing comfort care, safely transferring patients, taking vital signs, completing recordkeeping, recognizing and reporting changes in patient condition to the RN, and maintaining a safe, clean environment. The position works within job scope to meet requirements of regulatory agencies. Additionally, the Nursing Assistant organizes and implements non-nursing functions to facilitate workflow, enhance unit productivity, and provide excellent customer service. This includes performing clerical and reception duties, requisitioning supplies, equipment, and services, and assisting with scheduling. This position requires floating between the PACU and Outpatient Surgery units.
Requirements
- BLS certified or ability to become certified within 1 month from hire date.
- Must meet one of the following qualifications: 6 months of nursing assistant experience, OR completion of one semester of clinical rotations within an accredited nursing program, OR verifiable completion of a recognized nurse aide training program, OR current registration on applicable state nursing assistant registry.
Responsibilities
- Providing direct care to patients and serving the needs of patients in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort, under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager, Assistant Head Nurse, and/or Department Director (possibly with guidance from an LPN).
- Providing personal hygiene care.
- Assisting with nutritional needs.
- Providing comfort care and other assistance.
- Appropriately and safely transferring patients.
- Taking vital signs and completing recordkeeping.
- Recognizing and promptly reporting changes in patient condition to the RN.
- Maintaining a safe, clean environment for patients to promote the healing process.
- Working within job scope to meet the requirements of the Joint Commission and other applicable federal, state and local regulatory and accrediting agencies.
- Organizing and implementing the non-nursing functions of assigned unit(s) to facilitate workflow, enhance unit productivity, and provide excellent customer service to patients, families, visitors and staff.
- Performing clerical and reception duties.
- Requisitioning supplies, equipment, and services as directed.
- Assisting with scheduling.
- Floating between PACU and Outpatient Surgery.
