About The Position

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the nursing assistant assumes responsibility for the collection of data related to patient status, performance of basic nursing procedures, ongoing collection and documentation of patient data, assistance with treatments and procedures, and maintenance of patient care equipment.

Requirements

• Completion of a nursing assistant program preferred.
• No previous experience required.

Responsibilities

• Assists patients with activities of daily living and hygiene.
• Turns and repositions patients alone or with assistance.
• May transport patients and assist with walking.
• Assists adult/pediatric patients with toileting needs in relation to their age including emptying established colostomy bags and urinary catheter removal.
• Assists with fall prevention interventions and patient restraints as delegated.
• Removes and reapplies anti-emboli hose or compression devices.
• Assists with admission of patients to the unit by preparing room, greeting, and orienting patient and/or family to the unit.
• Takes and records vital signs accurately and repeats questionable values.
• Prepares patients for meals and assists in feeding and providing snacks and supplements.
• Collects urine, stool, and sputum specimens and delivers specimens to appropriate department as requested.
• Completes documentation in EMR in an accurate and timely manner.
• Maintains cleanliness and order of hospital room, utility room, diet kitchen, hallways, and alcoves.
• Disposes of excess linen and keeps linen emptied.
• Performs point of care testing as trained and delegated by RN and reports lab values to RN.
