Job Summary: Preferred completion of Nurse Assistant training program. Six months experience in patient care in an acute care facility preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology. Ability to write legibly, spell correctly and perform basic mathematics. Performs various patient care activities and related non-professional services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients; assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment. Duties/Responsibilities: · Assists in the preparation of nursing units, patient’s, rooms and beds · Assists in and may accompany patient in the admission, transfer and discharge procedures. · Performs personal care services for patient in morning, evening nights and for general care routines. · Perform routine treatment procedures. Ambulates patients · Assists licensed staff in complicated treatment procedures · Provides general nursing care under the supervision of licensed staff · Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, and blood pressure and intake/output measurements. In addition, reports abnormalities in vital signs to direct nurse or charge nurse as indicated. · Prepares patient for meals, serves and removes trays, assists with meals or feeds patient · Performs general care activities for patients in isolation · Answers patient call lights, attends to patient needs; makes rounds to assigned patients · Assists patients with handling and care of clothing and other personal property and documentation of patient belongings. · Communicates appropriately and clearly to nurse, charge nurse, co-workers and physicians · Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs · Provides care appropriate to disease condition and age of the patient · Collects and transports specimens · Participates in and regularly contributes to Nursing Care Plans · Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function well under stressful situations in a positive manner in all assignments. In addition, maintains a positive “guest relations” attitude. · Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families. Functions as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers. · Demonstrates knowledge of the principals of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patient population served. Able to interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group. · Provides pre-operative and post-operative care to the patients · Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments · Documentation meets current standards and policies · Maintains cost containment effort Participates in performance improvement activities
