The Northport VA Medical Center is seeking to hire two Nursing Assistants for their Long Term Care unit. This position is open to the public, specifically U.S. Citizens, Nationals, or those who owe allegiance to the U.S. The Nursing Assistants will perform care as delegated by a Registered Nurse, assisting medical personnel in the care and treatment of patients, which includes direct patient care. Responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information in computerized records, and addressing patient concerns through walking rounds. The role is focused on enhancing the comfort and mental health of patients, addressing their bio-psychosocial needs, personal hygiene, physical comfort, nutrition, hydration, and safety. Nursing Assistants will encourage self-care and promote patient independence while reporting to the Registered Nurse. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary. The work schedules available for this position include an Evening Tour from 3:30 PM to 12:00 AM, and a Night Tour from 11:30 PM to 8:00 AM, both of which may include weekends and holidays. The pay for this position is competitive, with regular salary increases. Employees will receive 37-50 days of annual paid time off, which includes annual leave, sick leave, and paid Federal holidays. After 12 months of employment, employees may qualify for up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave. A childcare subsidy may also be available for eligible employees after 60 days of employment. The position offers a traditional federal pension and a federal 401K with contributions by the VA. Health, vision, dental, term life, and long-term care insurance options are also available, many of which can be carried into retirement. Telework is not available for this position, and it is not a virtual role.
