About The Position

JOB SUMMARY:The Nursing Assistant in Training may function in the capacity of a nurse assistant only aftercompleting a certified nursing assistant program and are waiting to take the state skills and writtenexam. The non-certified Nursing Assistant in Training may function as a nurse assistant and assureresident safety, while completing a state-approved certification program. Once state testing iscompleted and Nursing Assistants in Training receive confirmation of passing, they are not considereda Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and would follow the job description for the CNA.

Requirements

Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
Must be a student in the facility’s state-approved Certified Nursing Assistant program.
Possess some computer skills and understanding of documentation software programpreferred.
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant suchaction.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors,government agency personnel, and the general public.
Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
Must have patience, tact, a positive attitude and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness tohandle difficult residents.
Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate theminto existing nursing practices.
Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
Must not pose a direct threat to the health and safety of other individuals in the workplace.
Must be able to move continuously throughout the workday.
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to functionadequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to workeffectively with residents, families, personnel, and support agencies.
Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which mayinclude a medical and physical examination.
Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and attimes, hostile people within the facility.
Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 10 pounds to a minimum height of 5feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 5 feet.
May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
Sitting: 1-2 hour per 8-hour shift. Alternates frequently to standing and walking.
Standing: 4-5 hours per 8-hour shift. Alternates frequently to walking and occasionally tositting.
Walking: 2-3 hours per 8 hour shift. Alternates frequently to standing and occasionally tositting.

Responsibilities

The Nursing Assistant in Training follows state-approved clinical curriculum including:
Takes and records vital signs
Measures and records height and weight
Calculates and records weight gain or loss
Calculates and records fluid intake and output
Cares for the Resident's environment
Recognize abnormal changes in body function and the importance of reporting suchchanges to a supervisor
Makes routine rounds on assigned Resident
Bathes Residents
Assists with grooming, including mouth care
Dresses Residents
Toilets Residents
Assists with eating and hydration
Uses proper feeding techniques
Calculates and records percentage of meal eaten
Observes Resident's skin when giving care and reports changes to licensed nurse.
Provides skin care per protocols
Is aware of developmental tasks associated with the aging process.
Responds to Residents' behaviors in ways to help minimize the behaviors .
Allows Residents to make personal choices.
Provides and reinforces other behavior consistent with the Residents' dignity.
Provides nursing rehabilitation/restorative nursing by:
Promoting Resident’s/Resident’s ability to adopt and adjust to living as independtly aspossible
Provides non-Resident care including, but not limited to:
Washing wheelchairs
