About The Position

SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Clinical Manager and Imaging Services QA and Operational Effectiveness Manager within Hospital and department policies and procedures, assists in caring for patients and/or families. Assists patients with dressing/undressing and handling, storing, etc., of personal belongings upon admission or discharge. Assists with activities of daily living (ADLs), such as ambulation, positioning, and toileting. Communicates all pertinent observations, to the responsible Registered Nurse. Immediately reports patient complaints and observations, including, but not limited to, abnormal vital signs, fever, chills, shortness of breath, chest pain, bleeding, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Maintains a safe patient environment. Complies with infection control practices in accordance with established Hospital and department policies and procedures. Prepares room, equipment, and needed supplies for diagnostic imaging procedure. Prepares room for imaging procedure including changing linens and table cleaning before and after use. Cleans the room and equipment upon completion of the exam. Maintains stock levels of supplies according to established par levels. Performs daily inventory. Stores supplies in proper area in accordance with established systems with particular attention to items having specific storage requirements and expiration dates. Stocks room with laundry and appropriate supplies. Maintains stock and linen areas in a clean and orderly manner. May pick up and deliver supplies and materials for department including lines, contrast material, food for patients, and supplies to be sterilized. Performs routine cleaning and maintenance. Maintains cleanliness of imaging rooms, patient changing areas, and imaging equipment. Performs basic patient care skills, such as vital sign reading and recording, point of care testing and specimen collection, under the direction of the Nurse. Reports any finding to Professional Nurse. Monitors arrivals and departures of Diagnostic Imaging patients in the Pre/Post Procedure department, Interventional radiology, or other DI modalities. Greets and escorts patients from the OP waiting area and orients patient to the appropriate department. Explains the basics of the procedure and responds to the patient’s questions and concerns. Identifies and assists patient prior to procedure and adhering to the Patient Identification Policy. Assists nurse and or Technologist in preparing patient for transport by dressing, lifting, and positioning patient in chair or stretcher. Transports patient to and from Diagnostic Imaging. Assists with oxygen therapy as directed by the Professional Nurse. Changes E cylinders, attaches regulators and adjusts breathing apparatus. Monitors rate of flow. Reports finding to Professional Nurse. Works with devices to the extent of training and in a manner that supports department and hospital patient care policies and procedures. Sets up cardiac monitoring devices according to procedure. Assists with cardiac monitoring, runs 12 lead electrocardiogram (EKG). Reports findings to Professional Nurse. Observes safety and/or isolation precautions per hospital guidelines when assisting infectious patients Prepares patient for imaging procedures. Assists with lifting and moving patients for imaging procedure to and from the imaging table. May assist patients as needed to change for procedures. Secures appropriate transport equipment such as stretcher or wheelchair and necessary additional equipment such as IV pole, linen or blankets. Cleans and prepares equipment before and after use. Report the need for repair of stretchers, wheelchairs and other related patient transport equipment in accordance with hospital policy. Utilizes side rails, restraints and assistive devices when available and necessary. Records selected treatments and procedures for which she/he is responsible. Maintains patient and family confidentiality according to established hospital standards for it. Responsible for emergency and safety conduct according to hospital policy. Performs all essential functions with consideration of the age-specific needs of the geriatric, adult, and adolescent patient. Performs other related duties within scope of care as assigned, including ordering/stocking supplies and paper forms, monitoring expiration dates, assisting Staff Nurse with patient prep, and monitoring set-up in procedural areas. Assists with both inpatient and outpatient transportation. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or General Equivalent Diploma.
  • Current RI license as a Certified Nursing Assistant with current certification in Basic Life Support/healthcare provider.
  • Reads, writes, and speaks English.
  • Possesses basic computer skills.
  • Has the ability to identify and report unsafe situations to the Staff Nurse.
  • Has the ability to perform responsibilities in emergency/code situations, including Basic Life Support.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and sensitivity to cultural diversity in each step of the care process.
  • One year’s experience in a procedural setting or currently matriculated in a Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited Baccalaureate Degree Program in Nursing.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, visitors, physicians and hospital staff at all levels.
  • Reading and mathematical abilities in order to perform and record tests, observe IV’s, operate monitoring equipment, and maintain an environment conducive to patient comfort and safety.
