About The Position

The Nursing Assistant I/II position at Stony Brook Medicine is a full-time role focused on providing compassionate care to patients, their families, and visitors. Under the supervision of a registered nurse, the Nursing Assistant will engage in direct patient care, assist with daily living activities, and maintain a supportive environment for individuals in care. This role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to respond effectively to changing patient needs.

Requirements

• Possession of or ability to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities during the probationary period for Nursing Assistant I.
• One year of satisfactory full-time experience in the provision of simple treatment and other patient care services under professional supervision for Nursing Assistant II.
• NYS Certified Nursing Assistant license or certification from an approved certified nursing aide training program (preferred).
• One year of patient care experience (preferred).
• High School Diploma or GED (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Change simple dressings as directed, give enemas, douches, and irrigations as directed.
• Apply hot water bottles, aqua K pads, ice bags, and coolers, and hot and cold compresses as directed.
• Chart and document care and/or behaviors as required.
• Take temperatures, pulse rates, blood pressure and respiration rate.
• Attend to daily living activities, personal, hygienic, and simple human needs.
• Feed persons requiring assistance to ensure appropriate nourishment.
• Bathe and dress, brush teeth and trim fingernails and toenails of persons in care.
• Maintain persons in care rights, dignity, and confidentiality.
• Perform housekeeping and cleaning duties related to direct care as needed.
