About The Position

The Nurse Assistant position at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in the Pediatric ICU is a full-time role requiring 36 hours per week on a night shift schedule (7 PM to 7 AM) with alternating weekends. The position involves assisting registered nurses (RNs) with daily patient care, including bathing, feeding, and ambulation, as well as documenting vital signs and patient data in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). The role also includes participating in the admission, transfer, and discharge processes, ensuring patient comfort and safety, and maintaining effective communication with the healthcare team. The Nurse Assistant will be responsible for various patient care tasks, including nutritional support, skin integrity maintenance, specimen collection, and coordination of tests and treatments. The position requires adherence to infection prevention policies and maintaining a positive customer relations environment.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 45 days.
  • Nurse Aide in good standing as indicated with the State Registry.
  • Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED), or High School Graduate.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communications.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to set priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to adapt to interruptions and changing priorities.
  • High level of attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Assists RN with daily care of patients including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders and ambulation.
  • Measures and documents blood pressures, TPRs, I & O, daily weights, and other patient data.
  • Documents accurately in Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Participates in admission, transfer and discharge process under supervision of RN.
  • Ensures patient call light is always in reach and answers call-lights promptly.
  • Performs purposeful rounding under direction of RN and communicates observations to RN.
  • Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties.
  • Performs tasks related to nutritional needs of the patient under direction of RN.
  • Maintains skin integrity through proper repositioning and skin care.
  • Collects urine, stool, and sputum specimens and performs point-of-care testing.
  • Maintains competency as required.
  • Coordinates tests and treatments with various departments.
  • Maintains working knowledge of EHR system and processes daily patient charges.
  • Facilitates communications required to support patient care.
  • Establishes and maintains positive customer relations.
