About The Position

The position involves cleaning and setting up surgical equipment in the Operating Room (OR) suite between cases, ensuring efficiency and adherence to infection prevention protocols. The role requires maintaining cleanliness and organization of equipment in storage areas, following policies regarding specimen and blood product handling, and preparing the OR suite based on surgical schedules and surgeon preference cards. The individual will also be responsible for reporting defective equipment, assisting in patient transfers, restocking supplies, and maintaining a safe environment by adhering to hospital policies. The role emphasizes teamwork, flexibility, and a commitment to learning and patient confidentiality.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Any previous experience in a hospital setting preferred.
  • BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans and sets up surgical equipment in OR suite between cases utilizing the approved Infection Prevention cleaning guide and manufacturer's IFU's.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of equipment in storage areas.
  • Follows Policy and Procedures regarding specimen handling and blood product handling.
  • Utilizes surgical schedule and surgeon preference cards to prepare the Operating Room suite for each surgical procedure.
  • Notifies appropriate personnel of any potential issues or possible delays.
  • Labels and reports defective equipment promptly to clinical engineering.
  • Completes appropriate paperwork and documents information in repair logbook for future reference.
  • Assists in lifting and transfer of patients under supervision utilizing proper transfer devices and body alignment.
  • Restocks supplies in assigned areas of the unit, reporting par deficits to materials manager.
  • Cleans and checks outdates before restocking.
  • Maintains a safe environment by following unit and hospital-based policies and protocols.
  • Practices universal precautions properly handling hazardous waste, sharps, trash, contaminated linen, medication disposal and oxygen storage.
  • Seeks informal and formal opportunities for learning.
  • Completes mandatories and assigned competencies as required by their role.
  • Recognizes one's own limitations and seeks appropriate resources as necessary.
  • Responds promptly to requests and emergency situations.
  • Communicates with the charge nurse when unable to meet the needs of the unit.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to teamwork, fostering positive working relationships.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in meeting the needs of the unit, accepting assignments willingly.

  • Maintains patient and medical staff confidentiality.
  • Supports nursing personnel in providing direct patient care and assists patients with daily activities.
  • Changes bed linens, runs errands and prepares supplies.
  • Transports patients within the facility.
  • Ensures a safe care environment for the patients and their families.
  • Performs continuous rounds and check-ins throughout the shift to ensure patient and family needs are met.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
