About The Position

This position is responsible for providing direct care to patients and serving their needs in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort, under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager, Assistant Head Nurse, and/or Department Director. The role contributes to meeting the mission and goals of Essentia Health. Duties vary by patient care unit/department and include personal hygiene care, assisting with nutritional needs, providing comfort care, safely transferring patients, taking vital signs, completing recordkeeping, recognizing and reporting changes in patient condition to the RN, and maintaining a safe, clean environment. The Nursing Assistant also organizes and implements non-nursing functions of assigned unit(s) to facilitate workflow, enhance unit productivity, and provide excellent customer service. This includes performing clerical and reception duties, requisitioning supplies, equipment, and services, and assisting with scheduling. This specific Nursing Assistant (CNA) will care for Critical and Intermediate Care specialties including Cardiovascular Surgical Medical.

Requirements

  • BLS certified or ability to become certified within 1 month from hire date
  • Must Meet One of the Following Qualifications:
  • 6 months of nursing assistant experience
  • Completion of one semester of clinical rotations within an accredited nursing program
  • Enrollment into the Essentia Health Nursing Assistant Foundation Course within 30 days of hire (East Market: Completion of Essentia Health Nursing Assistant Foundation course within 90 days of hire)
  • Verifiable completion of a recognized nurse aide training program
  • Current registration on applicable state nursing assistant registry

Responsibilities

  • Providing direct care to patients

  • Recognizing and promptly reporting changes in patient condition to the RN
  • Maintaining a safe, clean environment for patients to promote the healing process
  • Working within job scope to meet the requirements of the Joint Commission and other applicable federal, state and local regulatory and accrediting agencies
  • Organizing and implementing the non-nursing functions of assigned unit(s) to facilitate workflow, enhance unit productivity, and provide excellent customer service to patients, families, visitors and staff
  • Performing clerical and reception duties
  • Requisitioning supplies, equipment, and services as directed
  • Assisting with scheduling
  • Caring for Critical and Intermediate Care specialties: Cardiovascular Surgical Medical
