About The Position

The Fayetteville VA Medical Center is currently recruiting for a Nursing Assistant with the Community Living center aligned under the Geriatric and Extended Care. The Nursing Assistant performs residential care in the Community Living Center demonstrating the knowledge of resident care, clinical competences and knowledge of basic practices and procedures coordinated with the residence. The incumbent will function as responsible member of the Community Living Center.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Must complete a urinalysis drug test prior to appointment.
  • Must serve a probationary period.
  • Background/security investigation required.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is required.
  • Participation in the COVID-19 vaccination program is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Long Term Care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the full range of nursing care to patients/residents with physical and/or behavioral problems under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or Licensed Vocational Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Communicate orally with patients/residents, families, interdisciplinary team and other personnel.
  • Serve as a preceptor to new NAs by assisting with the coordination of their orientation and overseeing/assessing their practical experience.
  • Recognize and react to emergent patient/resident care situations and intervene while waiting for assistance.
  • Initiate, perform and complete assigned duties in providing care to variable resident populations.
  • Maintain good communication with Nurse Manager, nursing staff and facility staff.
  • Serve as a liaison between Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager, and Nursing Assistant peers.
  • Document in CPRS and complete resident Caribou AOL notes daily for each shift.
  • Participate in orientation and training, responsible for maintaining all annual skills competencies for NAs.
  • Make environmental, dignity, and safety rounds.
  • Participate in hourly rounding to prevent falls, meet resident's needs, and enhance the well-being of all residents.
