About The Position

This position is contingent upon the award of the contract Provide direct patient care with minimal monitoring by a Registered Nurse and promptly report deviations, abnormalities, or concerns. Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, hygiene care, feeding, ambulation, lifting, turning, and repositioning. Obtain, record, and report vital signs, including temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respirations, pulse oximetry, height, weight, intake and output, and blood glucose, reporting abnormalities immediately to the Registered Nurse. Provide care to patients receiving oxygen therapy, suction therapy, chest therapy, and postural drainage. Provide care for patients with condom catheters and indwelling Foley catheters. Change simple dressings and assist with basic treatment procedures in accordance with facility policy. Assist with diagnostic and clinical procedures by assembling equipment, positioning patients, collecting and transporting specimens, and monitoring patients before, during, and after procedures. Escort and transport patients to diagnostic studies, procedures, and appointments as required. Perform electrocardiograms as requested. Document patient care activities, observations, and vital signs in the Department of Veterans Affairs Computerized Patient Record System as directed. Promote patient independence by supporting self-care activities and reinforcing general pre-operative and post-operative instructions provided by licensed staff. Conduct patient inventories upon admission and as needed, including contraband searches and environmental safety checks. Provide one-to-one observation as a Patient Safety Partner when required. Recognize, manage, document, and report potentially hazardous conditions or disturbed patient behaviors to the Registered Nurse. Maintain cleanliness and functionality of patient care equipment and report equipment requiring repair. Comply with Department of Veterans Affairs infection control, privacy, information security, and safety requirements. May be required to work with patients who are COVID-19 positive or Patients Under Investigation. • Completes required organizational compliance education, including assigned requirements that are client-specified, for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.

Requirements

  • Must be certified as a Certified Nursing Assistant in any United States state or territory.
  • Must possess at least two years of direct patient care experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant within the last three years.
  • Must possess current basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification (BLS) from an American Heart Association.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English to effectively communicate.
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
  • Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance.
  • Must wear required uniform (royal blue scrubs) and Department of Veterans Affairs-approved identification while on duty.
