About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) position in the ACE/Stroke/Observation unit at Advocate Aurora Sinai Medical Center is a full-time role with a commitment to providing high-quality care to patients, particularly the elderly. The position requires working weeknights from 1900 to 0730, with no weekend obligations and 50% holiday obligations. The unit focuses on preventing loss of self-care abilities in older patients during hospitalization, utilizing a continuous quality improvement model of care. The role includes a comprehensive orientation program and opportunities for professional development, including a Nurse Residency Program for newly licensed RNs.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in Nursing.
  • New graduates are welcome to apply.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in geriatric care or acute care settings.
  • Proficient computer skills and experience with electronic medical records systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to make critical, independent decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Uses the nursing process to assess patient needs, plan and implement individualized interventions, and evaluate the effectiveness of the care plan.
  • Anticipates and recognizes significant changes in the patient's condition and takes appropriate actions.
  • Implements strategies to reduce patient risk and increase safety, and assesses patient and family readiness to learn.
  • Coordinates the discharge plan utilizing an interdisciplinary approach.
  • Applies evidence-based practice to deliver patient care and incorporates nursing and regulatory standards.
  • Evaluates patient, team, and unit outcomes and takes appropriate action when changes are needed.
  • Demonstrates effective communication and conflict resolution skills, promoting collaboration among healthcare team members.
  • Promotes a culture of safety and reports patient safety events in a timely manner.
  • Participates in quality/process improvement initiatives and professional development activities.
