Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required to apply for this position.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Six months of general experience or one year of education above high school related to nursing care is required.
  • Completion of a specialized training course related to nursing assistance may also meet experience requirements.
  • Ability to perform basic nursing procedures and treatments as per competency checklists.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting, particularly with elderly or disabled individuals.
  • Knowledge of basic life support and emergency response procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care and nursing activities for Veterans/residents that do not require licensure.
  • Assist patients in maintaining physical and social activity and peer interactions.
  • Recognize and respond to medical and behavioral emergencies, obtaining immediate assistance when necessary.
  • Accurately document nursing care and patient responses on established templates.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and discharge planning meetings, contributing to patient care plans.
  • Function as a therapeutic companion for Veterans needing close observation, ensuring their safety and engagement in activities.
  • Assist patients with self-care and promote their independence as much as possible.
