About the position

The Nursing Assistant, Certified (CNA) in General Surgery is responsible for assisting the Registered Nurse in providing patient care based on the individualized plan of care for a patient. This role involves performing basic nursing activities, conducting data collection, monitoring and documenting patient status, and ensuring confidentiality of all patient information. The CNA will utilize safe patient handling at all times and inform the RN of activities performed, observations of patients, and changes in patient status. Additionally, the position requires providing a neat and clean patient environment. This position is eligible for a bonus of $2500 until July 30, 2022.

Responsibilities

  • Assists patients with activities of daily living.
  • Turns and repositions patients alone or with assistance.
  • May transport patients and assist with walking.
  • Assists with fall prevention interventions and patient restraints as delegated.
  • Provides patient care as delegated by the RN including non-sterile soaks, application of non-sterile simple dressings, and perineal care.
  • Performs data collection including vital signs, fluid intake and outtake, and basic and sterile specimen collection.
  • Properly documents and maintains data on medical record and informs RN of activities performed, observations of patients, and changes in patient status.
  • Runs errands, answers telephone, and responds to call lights.
  • Performs point of care testing as trained and delegated by RN.
  • Reports lab values to RN.
  • Provides and documents comfort and non-pharmacological pain management measures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of a nursing assistant or patient care tech program.
  • CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant certification.
  • No experience required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of office equipment (fax/copier).
  • Data entry skills.
  • Mathematical skills.
  • Working knowledge of patient equipment (suction, vitals, defib).
